Lisbon, among many other features, hosts a part of the Tagus River that rises from Spain and flows into the Atlantic Ocean from Portugal. Tagus River is the longest river of the Iberian Peninsula with a length of 1038 kilometers. Around the quarter of the total length of the river is inside Portuguese territory, and some of it is in the capital Lisbon. With its majestic view, Tagus River provides tourists with some great sights along its banks. Here are some of the spots to find the best views.
1Passeio Das Docas
Similar to the LX Factory area of the Alcântara district of Lisbon, these docks are restored and appointed a different purpose and atmosphere. Formerly warehouses near the Tagus River, Passeio Das Docas is now a lively space that hosts plenty of trendy restaurants, bars, pubs, cafes, clubs, and activity centers. With its marina at the center, Passeio Das Docas is a great place to spend time and be near the Tagus River.
2Ribeira Das Naus
Ribeira Das Naus is the name of the path, the boardwalk, between the Terreiro do Paço square and Cais do Sodré. In the 15th and the 16th centuries, this area was used as a naval shipyard. The ships that discovered many other lands overseas had sailed from here. Later, Portuguese lands overseas were connected to the main territory via this port and the ships that had anchored here. Opened as a boardwalk in 2013, Ribeira Das Naus is a great place to accompany the Tagus River and it is very popular among both locals and tourists. Especially during weekends, hundreds of people rush to Ribeira Das Naus to enjoy the beautiful sights of the Tagus River.
3Belém
Between the Ponte 25 de Abril and Belém, there is a very nice esplanade with several lawns and green spaces to enjoy the sights of the Tagus River lying down. This road is also popular among the locals, too. With a nice and wide path alongside the riverbank, the esplanade here is perfect for a nice walk or a jog, strolls with pets, cycling, and spending time.
4Cais Do Ginjal
One of the nicest places on the other side of the Tagus River, Cais do Ginjal, is accessible via ferries that leave from Cais do Sodré to Cacilhas. While the other side of the river offers great views of the Tagus River with some restaurants, too; the journey on the river itself is also stunning.
5Parco Do Tejo
For the residents of the eastern parts of the Portuguese capital, Parco do Tejo is a very popular spot to stop by during weekends. Also offering great views of the Vasco da Gama Bridge and the tower, Parco do Tejo is one of the places in Lisbon that enables watching flamingos for a few months every year.
